Benefits of Drinking Lemon Water in the Morning

The humble lemon

WOW...what a wonderful creation by Mother Nature.

How blessed we are to have something so simple, yet so powerful just growing from trees.

So just how powerful are these beautiful golden drops?

  • They are a rich source of vitamin C

  • They contain a range of important antioxidants such as quercetin, beta-carotene, lutein & zeaxanthin

  • Lemons possess immense health benefits ranging from its antibacterial and antiviral properties to its immune boosting

  • Lemon juice acts as a digestive and a detoxifying agent and

  • It helps in cleaning the liver leading to better digestive health.

  • Aids in regular bowel movements

One of the most common ways to reap the health benefits of lemon is by juicing it. I often use lemon on fish or veg, in pesto, hummus, in dressings, juices, in kidney and liver cleanses, over pancakes and in my favourite lemon, honey and warm water drink. Even my girls love to suck the juice out of them (although we do need to be careful of the health of our teeth).

The peel is also a great addition to our meals.

But as part of my morning ritual I like to add the juice of 1 lemon, a stick of turmeric and ginger in a pint glass of warm water (and drink it through a straw). You could also add a pinch of Celtic Sea Salt to further hydrate your body and replace essential electrolytes.

This gently wakens the digestive system and prepares it for the food we will consume throughout the day.

It's an easy, yet delicious addition to anyone's diet.

Note: It is worth noting that some people, in particular those with acid reflux, may not be able to tolerate lemon juice.
