What is Nutritional Therapy?

Nutritional therapy is recognised as complementary medicine and aims to promote optimal health and lifestyle through nutrition science. It is a whole-body, individualised approach, tailored to identify and address potential imbalance and dis-ease in the body, rather than focusing on a range of symptoms.

It employs a wide range of tools to thoroughly assess each individual’s health status and support the body’s own natural healing potential through dietary and lifestyle changes.

Nutritional therapy can often work alongside conventional medicine. While people can see transformational positives in their health and wellbeing by implementing changes to their diet and lifestyle, clients with ‘red flag’ signs and symptoms are always referred to their GP. In addition, nutritional practitioners will always work alongside and communicate with other healthcare professionals involved in your care to explain any nutritional programme that has been provided.

What should you expect from your consultation?

At Complete Health Solutions, you will be seen by a fully qualified and registered practitioner. Each consultation is on a 1-1 basis, either in person or online. The advice is always individualised, rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach. Outcomes will be based on a detailed health assessment, patient goals, dietary preferences and lifestyle.

Step 1:

Prior to your initial consultation, I will ask you to complete a health and nutrition questionnaire. This will give me some idea of your concerns and/or symptoms and what you will need going forward. While it may be difficult, greater success outcomes are achieved when the client is specific, comfortable and open.

Step 2:

An initial consultation, which can last between 60-90 minutes, consists of me asking detailed questions about your current health concerns, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment, medical history, family history, lifestyle, levels of physical activity, use of medication and supplements and dietary preferences.

Step 3:

After careful evaluation of the information gathered and individual needs and preferences, I will devise an evidence-based, personalised nutritional and lifestyle plan. It is vital at this stage to discuss the plan and ensure that targets are realistic and that you are enthusiastic about the changes.

At times it may be necessary to recommend supplements, often on a short-term basis, to give your body some extra support as you begin implementing your plan.

Follow-up consultations generally take place 4-6 weeks later so that progress can be monitored, adjustments can be made or discuss new symptoms or concerns.

While I will provide support and guidance throughout the entire process, it is important that you are committed to make change.

Step 4:

In some circumstances, functional testing may be recommended. These include blood, saliva, urine or stool testing. These tests provide a more detailed picture of your current health status and provide valuable information as to how to improve your health.

If necessary, I may also refer you to appropriate specialists or healthcare providers such as a psychotherapist, acupuncturist, physiotherapist, osteopath, reflexologist, herbalist, homeopath to assist you in your health journey.

I will also work alongside and communicate with your GP and other medical professionals to discuss the nutritional and lifestyle plan you have been provided. Our main aim is that you receive appropriate care which aligns with your health goals.

If you are ready to make positive changes to your health and wellbeing, I’m ready to take each step with you.
